NBN makes affordable broadband pitch

The federal government is hoping a new $60 per month NBN package will entice about half a million budget-conscious households to sign up to the network.

NBN Co is set to offer internet retailers a new low cost bundle from October 1, allowing retailers to charge customers $60 per month for access to the NBN.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said on Tuesday it was a matter for retailers when their customers would be able to access the new package.
