The competition watchdog says it will not block Wesfarmers’ $230 million acquisition of Catch.com.au operator Catch Group.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has found that Wesfarmers probably cannot use its ownership of Kmart and Target to leverage online sales in an anti-competitive way.
“Stakeholders also consistently told us that Catch and Wesfarmers are not close competitors, primarily due to the differences in their business models,” ACCC commissioner Stephen Ridgeway said on Monday.
Catch.com.au, formerly Catch of the Day, offers out-of-season, clearance or overrun branded products and an online marketplace for third-party sellers.
Wesfarmers expects to complete the transaction this month.
