Parramatta is set to become an even more inclusive and accessible City with the adoption of its new Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030.
The DIAP sets out 17 actions to improve accessibility, inclusion and participation for people with disability across the City.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the DIAP delivers a clear, practical roadmap to strengthening accessibility within the community.
“This is about building a City where everyone can access spaces, services and opportunities with confidence,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We’ve listened carefully to our community, and this plan reflects what matters most and that means better access, greater inclusion and stronger awareness.”
More than 5,500 people engaged with the draft Plan during public exhibition with strong community support and valuable feedback helping refine Council’s approach.
Key actions include improving access to public spaces, increasing inclusive practice across events and communications, expanding awareness of hidden and neurodiverse disabilities, and strengthening accountability through clear benchmarks and reporting.
The plan also introduces a new focus on identifying footpaths without kerb ramps to prioritise upgrades as well as continued improvements to accessible play spaces across the City.
Cr Zaiter said the plan would also strengthen accountability.
“We’re putting clear benchmarks in place so the community can see the progress we’re making,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We know there is more work to do, and this plan ensures we stay focused on continuous improvement in this space.”
