Qantas is leaning toward the Airbus A350 as its preferred plane for its planned direct flights from Sydney to London and New York.
“No orders have been placed but Qantas will work closely with Airbus to prepare contract terms for up to 12 aircraft ahead of a final decision by the Qantas board” in March 2020, the airline said in a statement on Friday.
Qantas’ Project Sunrise envisions non-stop flights from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to the UK and the US starting in 2023.
