NSW Funds 120 New Crisis Accommodation Beds

The NSW Government has allocated $28.7 million to deliver 120 new crisis accommodation beds for people experiencing homelessness, with the first properties expected to become available in early 2027.

The funding is the first major allocation under the $130 million Building Crisis Housing Plan, which aims to expand and upgrade crisis accommodation across the state.

98 New Properties to Be Delivered

Eleven housing and homelessness providers have been selected in the first funding round, supporting the delivery of 98 new crisis accommodation properties.

Together, the projects will provide 120 beds, with around half reserved for women and children, including people escaping domestic and family violence.

The accommodation will also support groups including young people and Aboriginal communities.

Part of Wider Crisis Housing Program

The Building Crisis Housing Plan was announced in 2025 with a target of creating at least 200 additional crisis beds by 2029.

Homes NSW says the program is intended to provide more purpose-built crisis accommodation and reduce reliance on hotels and motels for temporary housing.

Two further funding streams remain under the program, while Homes NSW is also reviewing existing government-owned refuge sites for possible upgrades.

The first new beds funded through the latest grants are expected to come online from early 2027.
