Macquarie Park families are set to gain two new public schools, with a newly completed primary school preparing to welcome students in 2027 and construction now underway on a new high school for the growing Sydney suburb.
Future Kindergarten students have visited the new Macquarie Park Public School ahead of its opening on Day 1, Term 1, 2027.
The new school will accommodate up to 750 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and include 33 modern classrooms, a library, multipurpose hall, canteen, outdoor learning and play areas, staff facilities and out-of-school-hours care.
New High School to Accommodate 2,000 Students
Construction has also started on a new public high school in Macquarie Park.
The school is expected to be completed in 2028 and open to students on Day 1, Term 1, 2029.
Once complete, it will provide capacity for around 2,000 students and include modern learning spaces, a school hall, canteen and indoor and outdoor sporting facilities.
The sporting facilities are also expected to be made available to the wider community outside school hours through the NSW Government’s Share Our Space program, while remaining reserved for students during the school day.
Growing Education Infrastructure Across Ryde
The two Macquarie Park schools form part of a broader program of education and community infrastructure investment across the Ryde area.
Other projects include:
- A new community sports facility on the former Marsden High School site
- Conversion of the former Meadowbank Public School site into a public park
- A new high school for Melrose Park
- A major upgrade of Melrose Park Public School
- A major upgrade of Ryde Secondary College
- A new public preschool at Ryde East Public School
$9.2 Billion School Infrastructure Program
The NSW Government has allocated a record $9.2 billion over four years for new and upgraded public schools as part of the 2026–27 State Budget.
That includes $4.1 billion for Western Sydney, with the wider program covering around 260 new and upgraded schools and public preschools already in delivery across NSW.
The investment is aimed at increasing school capacity in fast-growing communities while replacing temporary and ageing facilities with permanent learning spaces.
More Than 25,000 School Staff Moved Into Permanent Roles
Alongside infrastructure investment, NSW has transitioned more than 25,000 teachers and school support staff from temporary contracts into permanent employment.
Since July 2023, permanent positions have been provided to 14,672 teachers and 10,363 school support staff.
NSW Government figures also show teacher vacancies have fallen to a 12-year low, while the number of merged and cancelled classes across the state has roughly halved since 2023.
The opening of Macquarie Park Public School in 2027, followed by the new high school in 2029, will give local families access to public education from Kindergarten through to Year 12 within the Macquarie Park area.
