The Sydney Opera House sails will be lit green this evening to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and recognise the important impact the Irish have had in NSW.
The sails will be lit from 7.45pm to midnight on St Patrick’s Day, a day which celebrates the patron saint of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure said St Patrick’s Day is one of many days that holds a special place on the state’s multicultural calendar.
“Like many of the major cultural celebrations we join in, St Patrick’s Day has a great way of uniting us all as one,” Mr Coure said.
“It is this quality that we want to celebrate and recognise and that is why we will be proudly lighting the sails of the Sydney Opera House tonight and help everyone get into the spirit of St Patrick’s Day.”
Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said there were thousands of people across NSW who would be taking part in St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
“St Patrick’s Day is famous for its celebrations, and I encourage everyone to head into the city and take in the green sails,” Mr Franklin said.
