LIGHT RAIL SERVICES TO RESUME NEXT YEAR

Inner West Light Rail services are set to recommence for customers under a plan that will also see trams repaired within a year.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is working on reintroducing services on a section of the inner west line with CBD and South East Light Rail trams.

Minister for Transport and Roads Rob Stokes said he is pleased services would resume soon and the 12 trams fixed ahead of the initial 18-month repair forecast.

“Having Inner West trams fixed within a year of this shutdown provides certainty and assurance for the people of the Inner West,” Mr Stokes said.

“In better news for Inner West Light Rail customers, TfNSW and its partners will restore services early next year using the CBD and South East trams.

“Testing of these trams on the L1 line have gone well, which could see them running between Central and Lilyfield before being extended to Dulwich Hill.”

TfNSW is working to restore services as early as February following the completion of testing the CBD and South East trams on the L1 line.

TfNSW continues to work closely with ALTRAC, Transdev, and the manufacturer CAF,who are responsible for the repairs of the Urbos 3 trams.

Preparation work to establish the Pyrmont depot as the light rail repair site is underway. This depot will repair two trams at once after the first has been complete.
